We don’t have much time left, around 5 lessons! It’s time to use your voice to decide what you want to work on in class. Be sure to comment below, stating a specific area of the text (language, themes, structure, ideas, context, characters etc…)
Hey Chandni,
Make sure that you can show how an idea/theme/or character is explored or presented in a few different parts of the text. Also, think about methods that the writer uses to create and build on tension or drama.
Can anyone add anything else?
Hi Asma,
I think that you could show how the character is explored throught the novel and then link it to the question e.g if it asks about Georges feelings then talk about that he is not lonely and because of this he feels like he has someone beside him which keeps him happy and motivated.
Hi Bhavu,
If you don’t understand it then you can say how you feel reading it and your initial thoughts. Also you could say what you think the poem means to you.(i think you can do this).
I hope that helps.
Great help Dixita, you are so supportive of others!
Bhavu, don’t forget that the question will give you a clue or a focus. Such as ‘Comment on the speaker’s feelings about *Love*’ or ‘How does the poet present the idea of *childhood*?’
If we do get two theme questions, would it be better to explore how one character is prensented with that theme or how a range of characters fit the theme?
I’d say it depends on the named theme. If ‘Integrity’ came up, you could do a great write up about John Protor and the way that his integrity falters throughout, but he ‘redeems’ himself (and his name) at the end. If hysteria came up you could look at a few of the characters (the girls, Parris, The Proctors).

I Agree with bhavu because i find unseen poetry hard and i dont really get what it is about and i haven’t got no work on it at home, do you think you can help me? š
Thanks for commenting from home Abbie. I understand that unseen poetry is a challenge. It’s hard to anticipate what will come up. All you can do is ensure that you apply the reading skills we’ve used for the anthology work to your reading of the unseen poem. Take 5-10 minutes reading and annotating the poem looking at: Title, language (interesting words, metaphors, similes, colours, images), Structure (line length and number, stanzaz, rhyme, repetition), Feelings (Yours and the poets).
Don’t forget that the first exam is on The Crucible and Of Mice and Men – Take a look at the most recent post, or click on this link to see a rap that I’ve made for it https://www.o2learn.co.uk/o2_video.php?vid=2059 – log in and vote if you can!
yeah i have done- and i aint got no work on english language ive worked on the unseen poetry and understand that a lot better. But i could really do with some help on the english lang.
Found the MIce and Men blog that you recommended really useful, nearly as good as yours. You should all go and have a look if you want something quick and easy.
I don’t get how to link the structure of the book into answers in the essay

okay that makes sense thanks miss š
I struggle with how I can talk about one character in detail and how I can relate it to the question(Mice and Men and Crucible)

Great advice Dixita!
For the unseen poem, what if you really cant understand the poem ( what the poem is really about) in the exam even after reading it twice ?
